Simpl develops an AI assistant for research centers and fuel and energy companies

News

Simpl has presented a prototype of an intelligent assistant for environmental specialists and research staff. The solution is built on domestic artificial intelligence technologies and works exclusively with verified regulatory frameworks, helping specialists significantly accelerate the preparation of environmental assessments and reduce the workload on experts.

The AI assistant addresses a key industry challenge — the shortage of qualified personnel and the growing volume of regulatory information. Today, a junior research associate may spend weeks or even months searching for data in federal laws, regulatory legal acts, construction codes, and methodological guidelines, while the quality of work largely depends on the experience of mentors. The new assistant takes over a substantial part of routine search and analytical tasks: it identifies relevant sections of regulatory documents, detects inconsistencies, compiles results from various sources into a single draft, and tracks updates to requirements.

The solution is designed for scientific and technical centers, environmental departments of fuel and energy sector companies, research units, and large industrial enterprises where the regular preparation of analytical materials is a critically important part of operations.

The key difference between the assistant and open AI models is that the bot is deployed separately within the perimeter of each enterprise, uses open-source models, is trained on validated data, and does not transfer information to external services.

According to pilot results, the preparation of a draft assessment is accelerated by at least three times, while quality improves through automatic reference verification and a standardized structure of conclusions. The assistant enables increased output without expanding headcount, reduces errors when working with regulatory documents, lowers the burden on mentors, and helps young specialists adapt to their roles more quickly. The system functions as a digital mentor based on the “do as I do” principle, accelerating training and reducing the number of mistakes made by newcomers.

“Our solution emerged from many years of experience working with industry — from oil companies to research centers. We saw how much time specialists spend cross-checking regulatory information, how difficult it is to integrate young employees into workflows, and how high the responsibility is for every assessment. The assistant was created as a response to these challenges — as a tool that enables faster, more accurate, and safer work while preserving the central role of humans,” said Artem Shilyaev, Head of International Business at Simpl.

In the future, the assistant will be able to perform calculations using formulas from methodological guidelines and automatically verify their compliance with regulations. Near-term plans include integration with internal research databases, harmonization of requirements from different regulatory acts, patent searches, automated verification of calculations, and support for new environmental domains.
